Professional Edge Consultants Proffered Detailed SRHR, Child Marriages, and Child Labour Policy Brief for Girls Activist Youth Organization-GAYO
SRHR Policy Brief Development
Professional Edge Consultants partnered with Girls Activist Youth Organisation in the development of robust Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights,
Child Marriages, and Child Labour policy briefs. This evidenced our commitment to the cause of advocating for the health rights of youth and women,
an end to child marriages, and child labor in Malawi, with particular attention to those areas that bridged the policy and its implementation gaps
in delivering SRHR services, preventing child marriages, and child labor.
Overview:
The consultancy focused on reviewing SRHR service provision in Malawi between 2017 and 2022 to identify gaps and recommend policy improvements that
ensured increased access to and use of SRHR services among women and adolescents. This brief was meant to act as an advocacy tool for influencing key
stakeholders and policymakers toward policy adoption for the protection of women's and youth well-being in SRHR. Moreover, on child marriages and child labor,
the consultancy aimed to review child marriage and child labor-related policies and implementation gaps. Our Approach:
Professional Edge adopted a comprehensive desk review methodology wherein the consultants analyzed existing SRHR research reports, consulted relevant
government bodies like the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Gender, and consulted with civil society organizations for an all-rounded understanding
of the status quo of SRHR, child marriages, and child labor. This was done to ensure that the policy brief was informed by evidence and the voices of key
stakeholders. Key Deliverables:
Inception Report: Detailed understanding of the assignment, including work plans, methodologies, and stakeholder consultations.
Draft & Final Policy Brief: A painstakingly developed SRHR, child marriages, and child labor policy brief covering an executive summary, findings of
the assessment, SRHR, child marriages, and child labor implementation gaps, and recommendations that could be acted upon.
Stakeholder Consultation: Continued insight and contribution from key stakeholders while developing the brief ensured its relevance and applicability
for practical use in advocacy.
Outputs:
The SRHR, Child Marriages, and Child Labour Policy Brief articulated clear and actionable guidance to address critical gaps in the policy implementation of
SRHR, child marriages, and child labor. It also served as an advocacy tool for GAYO and other CSOs to enable them to influence policy decisions leading to
increased access to SRHR services for women and adolescents throughout Malawi.
